HI. If it costs $1,100 for the county’s share the first year, what will it cost in the following years, when they hire an administrator, professional planners, consultants, department heads, and staff for each department (and there will be many), not to mention office space and equipment, travel and convention expenses for these bureaucrats, and the high cost of many studies that in many cases are substitutes for action.
I am not condemning planning bodies per se; they are necessary. I know that communication between adjoining political subdivisions is most desirable, however, informal planning discussions between these governing bodies would have suffered until such time as the board members could familiarize themselves of the many ramifications of these planning districts, more especially the service districts which absolutely erode the local . government’s right of selfdetermination.
The board is certainly aware of the Hahn report and that the service district follows the planning district. The service district is a regional government between the state and the local government with taxing powers over the jurisdictions represented on the planning district to finance their bureaucracy.
