As for the state and federal grants I question if we can afford them. The state has learned from the feds to use the carrot and stick approach on these grants to gain more control! over local government. The more of these so called give away programs we receive, the more control the state and federal governments have over our local government. -
I once read that a federal judge had ruled in an urban renewal dispute between the federal government and a city that the government had contributed more than 50 percent of the total cost of the project and therefore would have the final say on all matters concerning this project.
Apply this decision to our school system, and it would > mean that whenever the state or federal government contributed over fifty percent of the cost of local education that they could determine the curriculum, and thereby control the minds of the children. What would we have left?
Let it be clearly understood that I am in no way condemning the board' members for their action in joining the planning district. I am confident they are honest and dedicated people.
