‘Experts’ for sale

; NEED SOMEONE to provide 4 4expert testimony to support some ^project you have in mind any project? Want an “expert” to prepare a report, with statistics and charts, proving anything you want proved? Obviously, such “experts” are available for any purpose, as witness the recent “Great America” fiasco, where the Marriott Corporation produced “expert” after “expert” to testify, blandly, that this fibre glass fiasco would have no effect whatsoever on the surrounding countryside. Or how about the more recent report in behalf of Reston, where a duly-paid “expert” advised his client-developer that, contrary to a mighty mass of evidence to the contrary, unbridled development is good for you?

Some of the most damaging “expert” testimony is taking place on a much smaller scale — but damaging, nevetheless, for its cumulative effect. The specific problem we have in mind has surfaced recently in both Prince William and Fauquier Counties, and how the two counties reacted tells a lot about these jurisdictions and the people who have positions of responsibility there.
