FARM losses caused by fire amount to about $250 million annually, reported J. Lawrence Calhoun, pro-, fessor and Extension specialist in agricultural engineering at Virginia Tech.
This figure includes the loss of dwellings, buildings, animals, hay, grain, supplies, ''andLjjihchinery, he said.
These fires also cause the destruction of many family keepsakes of great personal value, he added. Many of these items can never be replaced.
But, Calhoun stressed, the greatest tragedy is those who die or are severly injured in farm fires each year. Many of these property and human losses can be prevented.
