THE PROBLEM, as usual, is caused by residential growth. A huge backlog of septic tank permit applications lias developed in both counties. In Fauquier, the Board of Supervisors is looking favorably on a plan to increase the Health Depaftment’s sanitarian staff, and policy statements have been made expressing displeasure on any plan that would allow builders to pay for their own “perc” tests, and thereby gain a favored priority position.
Prince William’s Supervisors, by contrast, are pursuing an irresponsible course. They’ve attempted to order the Health Department — state laws to the contrary — to automatically rubber-stamp “perc” tests which builders have obtained from their own hired hands.
