THE ATHLETIC particicipants of Rappahannock County High School were treated to a steak dinner at the Steak House Restaurant near Culpeper Monday evening, and athletic awards for the year were given out. Certificates, letters and trophies were awarded for basketball, baseball, track, cross county and cheerleading.
Highlights of the evening were the awarding of the best cross country and track trophies to Charlie Thomas; two baseball trophies to Cliff Frye; a combination basketball and track award to Margaret Jett, and a sportsmanship award to Bobby Foster, plus three basketball awards for varsity players.
In cross country, the •Rappahannock team defeated every A and AA team in the state and Charlie was named best individual in cross country, with Bill Taylor cited for “most improvement” in cross country. Charlie has accepted a scholarship to Pensacola Junior College, Pensacola, Fla.
With graduation just around the corner and Charlie Thomas a senior, coach John Toth’s closing remark brought a lump to the throat and a tear to the eye of all when he said: “We’regonna miss you, Buddy.”
