Son of Mrs. Bertha HawKins Burke of Woodville and the late John Ashby Burke, he was a native of Rappahannock County.
Besides his mother, he is survived by his wife, Mrs. Thirza Burt Burke formerly of Boston, England; two sons, Richard Lester Burke of Huntlyand Karl Lyndon Burke of Washington, Va;twograndchildren; two brothers, Gilbert Burke and Marvin Burke, both of Woodville; and a sister, Mrs. Mary Frances Lillard of Front Royal.
He was a member of Washington United Methodist Church and a veteran of World War II, serving overseas and participating in the Rhineland campaign.

Mrs. Catherine Wright McFarland of Madison, wife of the late George McFarland died May 24, 1973 in a Staunton hospital. She was 66, daughter of the late James and Emma King Wright of Rappahannock County.
