In January, three plans for a four-lane bypass of Sperryville were presented by the Highway Department. Citizens speaking at that hearing opposed all of the bypass plans, noting that a bypass would take tourist traffic away from shops in town and the fourlanes would “bottleneck” into three lanes at the Park. The Park Service has said that the existing three-lane road over the Blue Ridge must remain as it is.
The new plans for Route 211, presented by the Highway Department last week, call for a fourlane road with a median strip from the end of the Washington bypass to just outside Sperryville.
