Assessment

notices out

RAPPAHANNOCK Landowners are receiving a notice in the mail from the Rappahannock Board of Assessors. This is not a tax bill, it was emphasized. The notice is to inform each landowner of the assessed value of his property.

As the notice states, the information represents 15% of the appraised value and the 15% figure shown represents the amount subject to taxation. The actual tax rate will be determined by the Rappahannock Board of Supervisors.

Although the actual amount of tax is not shown on this notice, an opportunity is offered each landowner to appear before the Board of Assessors to discuss or ask questions about the values placed on his property. Dates for such personal discussions at the Court House are:

February 18, Wakefield District; February 19, Jackson and Hawthorne; February 20, Piedmont and Stonewall; February 21, Hampton and Town of Washington.
