The State has a pine reforestation program that will reimburse the landowner for one-half the cost of pine establishment providing the total cost does not exceed $60 per acre. The cost of planting pines in most open fields runs $30 per acre; if the landowner takes advantage of the State’s cost sharing program, he would have approximately $15 per acre invested in the planting. After 15 to 20 years of growth an acre of loblolly pine would be worth $100 to $200. To qualify for the State’s cost sharing program, the landowner would have to plant at least three acres of pine.
