THE STATE Corporation Commission in Richmond has been asked by attorneys for the Rappahannock League for Environmental Protection to suspend execution of its order granting the Virginia Electric Power Company and Potomac Edison the right to construct a new 500 k.v. powerline pending RLEP’s appeal to the state Supreme Court. The attorneys, John F. Kay and Angus H. Macaulay, of the firm of Mays, Valentine, Davenport & Moore, at the same time filed their notice of appeal of the SCC decision.
In the event the SCC refuses to instruct the two utilities to hold up all action on the proposed powerline pending the outcome of the appeal," the state’s high tribunal was requested to do so by the RLEP counsel. They cited four bi;oad grounds for “assignment of errors’’ in their appeal of the SCC decision favoring the utilities, which will be developed further
when the attorneys file their actual appeal.
These developments were reported to a .meeting on the RLEP’s new Emergency Action Committee on June 15, at the home of Witold Kuncewicz near Flint Hill. On this past Monday, June 23, counsel for RLEP met with affected landowners and other interested residents of the county at the Flint Hill Fire Hall. The meeting was well attended.
