THEY pointed out that if the utilities should proceed with construction and the Supreme Court reversed or modified the SCC order, it is probable that some or all of the constructed facilities would have to be removed, which, they said further, would be “both extremely expensive and wasteful from the standpoint of both the stockholders and the customers of the applicants.”
In addition, they said, such construction and subsequent removal of the new facilities “would result in unnecessary, irreparable and extensive damage to the environment in the vicinity of any such construction.”
A fund-raising drive to finance the appeal and pay a back debt to the RLEP was authorized at the meeting of the Emergency Action Committee. So far, RLEP has spent about $48,000 on the case. Approximately $8,500 more is needed to pay the remainder owed the attorneys and to fundanappeal. Contributions should be sent to RLEP president Phil Irwin, Flint Hill.
