SHARON KILPATRICK accused the Rappahannock School system of “promoting sugarholics,” at the School Board meeting Tuesday night. As evidence, she brought with her a wrapper from a popsicle, (me of the varieties offered for sale in all the classes at the Elementary School every afternoon. “I’m not pleased with the opportunity given to children to purchase water, sugar and chemicals,” she said after reading the ingredients listed on the label to the Board.
She noted that chocolate-covered ice cream bars and cones are also available but at a higher price. Mrs. Kilpatrick, whose daughter is an elementary school student, suggested that the schools look into the possibility of preparing and selling their own popsicles made out of fresh fruit juices and maintained that this could be a bigger profit-making endeavor than selling the commercial variety.
