Rappahannock basketball fans were brought to their feet in Tuesday night’s game when the Lady Panthers edged a victory over Central of Woodstock 45-43.
The score zigzagged back and forth between the team with first one and then the other in the lead. High scorers for Rappahannock with 14 points each were Rhonda Estes and Jamell Prudhum. Eleanor Phillips scored 9 points followed by Chris Nicholson with 5; Mae Dunn 2 and Peanut Mahoney 1.
Rappahannock out rebounded Central 52-42 with Jamell, Rhonda and Eleanor accounting for the most of them.
Thursday night the Rappahannock girls varsity defeated William Monroe with a final score 37-28. William Monroe took the lead in the first quarter 14-8 but the Pantherettes came on strong in the second period outscoring WM and opening the gap still further in the third quarter. The remainder of the game was an even contest but Rappahannock by then had a sizeable margin lead.
Eleanor Phillips tossed in 11 points while Mae Dunn followed with 10. Jamell Prudhum and Chris Nicholson each scored 5, and Jamell pulled in 20 rebounds.
A highlight of the evening was the expertise with which Eleanor Phillips blocked a WM shot, sending the ball into the bleachers.
Other team members playing were Kim Estes, Sharon Grigsby, Angela Grigsby and Penny Jett.
