EVERY time schools and education become a matter for public discussion, emotional responses cloud the issue. The proposed consolidation of some school administrative positions has been no exception.
Frankly, the proposal seemed to have merit. At a time when taxpayers at all levels are complaining about rising rates, caused by ballooning bureaucracies, any proposal to cut back on any bureaucracy, however small, should have elicited strong public support. And especially so when it did not seem to contain any potential for harming the purpose of the particular bureaucracy involved — which, lest anyone forget, is to make sure our children get the best education possible.
