inflate the educational bureaucracy. After all, Rappahannock’s is an extremely small school system — only two buildings and approximately 1,200 pupils.
And after all, again, up until last year a single superintendent had tended not only to Rappahannock’s affairs, but to those of neighboring Warren County as well. If one person was able to do that, then surely one person is able to act as high school principal and superintendent, as well.
BY SOME calculations, establishing a separate superintendent’s job, and a separate assistant superintendent’s job, could mean that the system would wind up with a bureaucratic administration that would cost the taxpayers of Rappahannock County $1,000 per school child, per year. That’s an awful lot of administration for an awfully small system. It’s far too much.D
