other schools and that a full time set of administrators is a luxury. In my personal opinion, Rappahannock will never be able to compete with other, larger schools in the areas of facilities and materials without massive state or federal aid. Perhaps I am prejudiced, being a teacher, but I feel that the only area where we can excel is that of personnel. The sole advantage, but a very important advantage, of the Rappahannock student is the close relationship between student, faculty, and administration which is possible in a small school. All efforts should be made to increase and better all areas, but do not rob your one great strength to throw a few dollars into weaknesses that will not be corrected by those few dollars. You will merely have another weakness.
I was somewhat surprised to hear many persons blithely ignore the information and opinions of Mr. Norton and Mr. Fleetwood, the two persons who know most about the workload and conditions of the positions in question.
I was also surprised to hear Mr. Eastham ask, “Since when do we challenge what the school board does?’’ I was surprised that he asked that question on this particular year, because exactly 200 years ago we formed a nation based on the people ruling through representatives subject to the will of the people. When those representatives, whether elected or appointed, do not do the will of the people, then the public has the right and duty to make that fact known.
