school board. I wholeheartedly agree. It seems strange that the first action was taken in executive session, with no witnesses, when the matter has since been presented as merely an economic, not a personnel problem. Executive session supposedly is only for specific personnel problems. All other business should be public.
All in all, this is an area of confusion and the confusion has many causes. Differences of philosophy, rationale, and motive all have their part. However, the lack of communication and accurate information by all parties is a factor which could be corrected. School board members make policy, but are seldom in the schools to view the conditions or results. Teachers are in constant daily contact with the students and their problems, but are seldom present when the board discusses problems and makes decisions. Due to the demands on their time by problems and paperwork, administrators often cannot spend the time with students and faculty that would help them see the situation more clearly. Students know their own problems, frustrations, likes, desires, and points of pride far better than anyone else, however, their opinions on school matters are seldom sought and less often attended to.
