YOU MAY WRMFMBF.R reading about John Bauserman, a young, successful farmer from Fauquier County, whose sheep flock ranked second in the Virginia State returns per ewe contest. His 464 ewes produced 680 lambs and 4,199 pounds of wool that sold for $39,333. A return of $85 per ewe. John is very interested in seeing the sheep industry return as a viable, growth industry in the Piedmont.
JOHN AND THE EXTENSION AGENTS in Culpeper, Fauquier, Madison, Orange and Rappahannock have been sharing ideas and working together to see what can be done to revitalize the sheep industry in this area. With this in mind we are inviting sheep producers and potential sheep producers to get together next Tuesday, March 29 at 7:30 p.m. at the Northern Virginia Electric Coop, just south of Culpeper on Route 29. If you are sincerely interested we would like to exchange ideas with you on what is needed to develop a strong, slow growth, quality sheep program. Before you leave you may even decide to form a five-county sheep producers’ association.
