Trinity Episcopal Church in “Little"* Washington belongs to Brumfield Parish which is over 250 won* old and has included a variety of churches owr the years in what is now Madison and Rappahannock counties.
In the 1850s the rector was working out of what is now Madison County trying to minister to folks in Rappahannock, with no church here at the time. He commented that he rode his horse so tong in the winter that at times his buffalo boots fVo«e to his stirrups.
Finally, in the spring of 1857 the construction of Trinitv Church was begun with the laying of a cornerstone in foil ceremony In November 1857 the new church was consecrated by the Rt. Rev. John Johns, bishop of the Diocese of Virginia.
As originally built, there was only the church itself. Much development has occurred since then, including a belt tower and a parish hall on the outside, as well as choir pews, electricity and heating and air conditioning on the inside.
