The facility houses millions of audio and visual material that presents a sort of show-and-tell of more than a century of Americana.

The purpose of the 45acre facility is to give people access to this vast collection of American history, Gregory Lukow explained.

“We have three preservation labs that digitize copies from the originals.** he said. The copies are being made available for research, public showings, or additions to the libraries of the film industry.

The copies also are sent to the Library of Congress in Washington and to a storage facility at an undisclosed site in Northern Virginia. That latter as a 911 induced safety precaution. Lukow said.
