Book Barn holds silent

auction of collectibles

Some of the books for sale at the Book Barn, operated by Friends of the Library, are worth many times more than the Barn’s usual price of $2.

Thanks to the suggestion of one of the customers there will .be a Silent Auction from Nov. 1-29 for the following books: “English Fairy Tales" published by Macmilan Company in 1918 with color plates by Arthur Rackham. opening bid $25; “Salons: Pictures of Society Through Five Centuries’* - the court life of Borgias and the elaborate salons which Voltaire, Goethe and others participated- opening bid $15.

Others are “Washington, A Virginia Cavalier'* which is a 1930 edition of a 1916 book from the “Little Lives of Great Men" series, opening bid: $10; and “Southland Stories’* written by James B. Hodgkin, in Manassas, Virginia in 1903 for the “entertainment" of his children and “the memory of the ‘Old Virginia." minimum bid $35.

The Book Barn, which is next to the Rappahannock County Library un Route 211 outside of Washington, Va.. is open every Saturday from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. For $2 you may purchase hardback books, DVDs, CDs and videos.

Paperbacks are 25 cents each or five for $1 and children’s books vary in price. There are special sections for science, mysteries, biographies, humor, religion. art, crafts, gardening, science, cookbooks, nature, Virginia, how to, history, drama, poetry, travel, science fiction, romance and more.

Also, please become a Friend of the Library; our library can never have too many friends.
