It is interesting that the newspaper didn't even mention Sen. McCain’s running mate, Sarah Palin. McCain’s naming Palin certainly seems newsworthy and is an event that occurred since the newspaper's last endorsement of McCain. The twelfth amendment to the U.S. Constitution clearly states that the only function of the vice president is to be “eligible* to be president. Does the Rappahannock News believe that Gov. Palin is qualified to be president? 1 don't. And I believe Sen. McCain's choice is reckless and disrespectful of the American people.
As to John McCain's military service, “do we owe him a debt of gratitude?* You bet - just like all those men and women who have served or are serving, including the tens of thousands who have been killed or wounded in our unjust war in Iraq. We owe them all our gratitude - equally.
There’s another thing that John McCain keeps saying that I just can’t reconcile. He keeps harping on his concern about Government (with a big “O”) intervening in the provision of health care. (And just to be clear, the government already provides direct assistance in the form of Medicare and Medicaid.)
