Since 1998, she has been creating a digital database of several dozen layers of Rappahannock County data, including topography, geology, soils, land cover, streams, flood plains, roads and easements. She has used those layers to create hundreds of maps for individuals and organizations, including the county’s magisterial and zoning districts, hunt club territories and historic districts.
Her work in GIS led her to help obtain private grant money to build a GIS lab and course at Rappahannock County High School.
The Culpeper Soil & Water Conservation District named Beverly Educator of the Year in 2006. This fall she was designated Citizen Leader of the Year by the RappahannockRapidan Regional Commission.
Together, Beverly and Hal are also regular contributors to other nonprofit efforts in the county.
