still relatively rare there are signs that Vibro, Cyanobacteria and Criptosoridium pathogens are becoming more common. High levels of fecal bacteria were reportedly responsible for no swim advisories at 31 beaches in the bay last year. We must remember that we all live downstream in some sense.
Restoring the health of the bay is in all of our interests and in the interests of future generations. All of us should act as proper stewards of the environment and pass on to the next generation a world at least as good as we found it. This should not be a partisan political issue.
We should all remember the words of President Theodore Roosevelt, one of America’s greatest champions for the conservation of wildlife and the environment. “To waste, to destroy our natural resources, to skin and exhaust the land instead of using it so as to increase its usefulness, will result in undermining in the days of our children the very prosperity which we ought by right to hand down to them amplified and developed.”
