All Saturday we traveled over land that has not moisture enough in its soil to raise the native sun flower and we saw thousands of acres of dead ones, and prairie dogs by the thousands. The poor little villages along the route look sick—no improvements any where—and the people acted so disheartened that they would not even come down to the depots to look at our seven cars with a double header. These poor people must migrate, their crop at least will not save them. The stock along the route could be easily counted.
