My Dear Brother Wylgm:—Wall, just a line to say that I pulled into Denver at 3 p. m. yesterday aud put np at Hotel Roslyn, European Plan. Secured a nice room and took a bath which was very necessary after "crossiug the plains" From daylight Saturday morning until we came right up to the city limits of Denver the poor eondition of crops and country is in evidence. Millions of acres are not in crop and never will be, until soma method of sub-irrigation is found to wet up occasionally this arid plain as it is needed. To cross this vast territory and notioe an occasional fallen down sod house forcibly reminds one of the pioneer who fought a brave fight but was vanquished. In the twelve hour# run across this desert plain we saw men here and there planting oorn with listers, in'deep furrows, and wheat headed out not over 6 inenes high, thousands of acres of it. That is the winter wheat of Kansas and eastern Colorado. Then just think of plantiag corn in the middle of June, in ground so dry that you ean scarcely see a mam on the lister for the oloud of dust that he stirs up,-and yet somebody is telling of the fertile lands along the route over which we came.
