LC’s Southern Culture Institute Lectures April 26 Richmond Editor Two Writers To Be Presented The Institute of Southern Culture 'n be held at Long wood College on April 2fi will feature lectures by scholars of varied backgrounds. The first lecttre on “Education that Doesn't Educate: The Persis tence of Virginia Folkways” will be given by Dr. Francis B. Simk’ns. professor of history at Longwood. Dr. Simkins. a South Carolinian by birth, has devoted a lifetime to teaching and writing in the South. He is the author of well-known his tories of the South and of Virginia and of many other books and articles in the field of Southern his tory A past president of the South ern Historical Association. Dr. Sim kins has given special lectures in his field at such institutions at Louisiana State University. Prince ton University, and Memphis State College. Editor Coming The second lecture in the series will feature Dr. Louis D. Rubin. Jr., assoc’ate editor of the Richmond News Leader, who will talk on “The Image of an Army: The Con federate War in Southern Litera ture ”
