By LINDA TAYLOR Editor, EHS ‘Focus’ Howard Noel, a senior at Farm vine High School, has won the Du Pont Regional Scholarship to the University of Virginia. The $3,400 scholarship, donated by DuPont, will cover a four year period The winner of the scholarship was determined on a highly competitive basis. First. Noel was nominated by the principal of Farmville High School, M. U. Lrete. based on ability, scholastic achievement and financial need. The next step was to appear before the DuPont Re gional Scholarship Committee in Petersburg for a personal interview. Noel and five other boys survived pus screening and were guests at the University of Virginia during the weekend of March 22. Five nominees from each of the other four regions of Virginia were also guests. At the University each boy was interviewed by the DuPont State Scholarship Committee for final analysis of attitudes, personality, character and ambitions. A written examination was the final test to determine the recipient of the scholarship. Although this is by far the biggest , of honors bestowed upon Noel, many honors have come his way through Ills classmates, who have recognized his cxcrllent leadership and sports manship qualities. His biggest job this year has been in editing the FHS yearbook, the “Cavalier.” Be side playing halfback for the “Orange and Black" and maintain ing a 97.54 scholastic average, he is president of the Monogram Club, a member of the Physics Club and the Beta Club, national honorary - -A- »m. di>. o j r
