Dr. Rubin is a graduate of the University of Richmond and of Johns Hopkins University where he took h's PhD. in the esthetics of literature. He is the author of a book on Thomas Wolfe and of numerous essays on Southern litera ture and for several years previous to his present position served a executive secretary of the American Studies Association Taplin Lecture The concluding lecture will be given by Dr. Gardner B. Taplin. as sociate professor of English at Long wood. A New Englander by birth and educational training. Dr, Taplin taught at Indiana University and at Boston University before coming to Longwood A biography of Elizabeth Barrett Browning has just been pub lished bv him at the Yale University Press. Dr. Taplin's topic for the Institute lecture will be ‘ Critical Esays in the Southern Literary Messenger.” The lectures will be held at 11 a.tn.. 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. respectively in the lounge of the Student Activi ties Building of Longwood College and are open to the public. Dr. Robert To Address Superintendents Dr. Joseph C. Robert, president of Hampden-Sydney College, will address the opening session of the Superintendents' Annual Confer ence to be held in Roanoke Mon day April 15 through Wednesday, April 17. Drs. Francis G. Lankford. Jr., president, and Earl R. Boggs, dean, of Longwood College, will be among the other representa tives from colleges in this area who will attend this three day conference.
