Game Warden Releases ^ ‘

Wild Turkeys In County , -

'Game Warden €. Ennis Browti released a number of wild turkeys in Rappahannock county early Monday morning. They took to" the top of the trees immediately.

This makes 56 wild turkeys released in the county so far this year. The program of restocking covers a five-year period; 110 were turned loose the first year, ©0 last year, 56 so far this year with 14 more to be freed in two weeks. , < -

No hunting of wild- turkeys is • permitted”in the county until the ' five-year re-stocking period is completed. ‘ <

Sperryville Beautification

Program Extended X—

The Rappahannock Garden Club has extended to October 1 the deadline for entering the* contest to beautify premises adjacent to the Thornton River in Sperryville. The date was changed with the hope that crisp autumn days would revive lagging spirits and. ambitions, and inspire the planting of some of the hardiest shrubs and perennials. A few plants which give the greatest return for the least work are: iris, sedum, holly hocks, coreopsis, day lily, brown-eyed susan, and forsythia.

Anyone who wishes to enter this contest should notify "Mrs. & V. Snead by post - card before October 1. »

Antique Auction, Bqke ~

Sale Set for Sept. 15 .

D. D. Miller is getting his voice in trim for Saturday night to officiate as auctioneer for the antique and white elephant sale in front of the Courthouse, beginning at 5 o’clock.

The ladies of the Auxiliary of Trinity Episcopal church are also - holding a bake sale, along with ' the auction. The bake sale on; Saturday night will enable housewives to purchase for Sunday din■ ner. A suggestion has been offered that a fine taste In the. mouth of the man of the household may help soften the blow ~ when the Madam tells him how much she spent at the auction.
