James £. Robertson, manager of the Social Security office in Alexandria, returned today from * three-day conference on management improvement, held at Old Point Comfort. The purpose of the meeting was to formulate a plan for an improved program of better service to the public in the light of experience gained during the first year of operation under the expanded program provided by the 1960 amendments to the Social Security Act.
Managers and assistant managers of the 42 social security suffices in Virginia, North Carolina, W. Virginia, Maryland, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico attended the conference. Also participating in the conference discussions were Michael J. Shortley, Regional Director of the Federal 'Security Agency; Oscar C. Pogge, Director of the Bureau of Old-Age and Survivors Insurance; and M. D. Dewberry, Regional Representative of that bureau...
“Administration of the expanded system has proceeded with remarkably few difficulties,” Mr. Robertson said. “We are now looking ahead to the first of 196® when self-employed persons must make their first tax reports and begin building their own insurance protection.
