According to swine feeding tests: A. T. Lassiter, associate animal husbandman of the VPl Experiment Station, stated at the Out Out Demonstration held last Saturday at Sperryville that: in comparing feed costs and resulting gains between feeding two hogs to 400 lbs. liveweight and four hogs to 200 lbs. liveweight (both making a total of 800 lbs. pork on the hoof) that the two 400 lbs. porkers cut out 8 )bs. less meat, required 690 lbs. more feed, and produce 60 lbs. more lard, not to mention the greater difficulty in curing the larger meat. The average lard consumption per capita being 20 lbs. per year the four 200 lbs. porkers would provide a sufficient quantity for a family of five. Thus with feed costing around 4-cents Der oound locally.
