Socialism Has To Win
Only Once!
In recent months, it has often been said the socialized medicine movement in this country has been stopped. That idea is largely based on the fact that Congress has given the Administration-sponsored government compulsory health insurance bill the complete deepfreeze treatment.
It would be a grave danger, however, if we came to believe that this is the end of the matter and that there’s nothing more to worry about so far as socialized or politically-dominated medicine is concerned. It is probably true that the socialists have given up hope of achieving their goal at one fell swoop, as was done in - England. But they undoubtedly plan making progress through a subtle, little - step - by-little - step technique.
As an example, the President recently announced the creation of a “Commission on the Health Needs of the Nation,” to be financed from emergency funds which were allocated for the national defense—though no student of the health problem can see where any emergency now exists. At least one very distinguished doctor refused to become a member of the Commission, on the grounds that it is on “instrument of practical policies,” designed to help revitalize the compulsory insurance scheme. A number of leading newspapers observed the findings of the Commission must be discounted in advance, and doubted if it would make anything even resembling an objective and dispassionate survey of the national health.
