25-cent Tax Increase
Set By Supervisors
With a necessary tax increase to $2.50 per hundred over last year’s $2-25, the Board of Supervisors approved the budget for the coining fiscal year at the special meeting Saturday, April 5. The proposed increase of 30 cents was reduced to a 25-cent increase after the Board failed to approve the requested $1200 addition for the welfare department funds.
The Board of Supervisors had, at a previous meeting, approved the increase with the provision that $600 of the increase would be used for old-age assistance. This designation of funds is not in accordance with rules and regulations of the welfare department, and when they found they could not name where the money would go, the Supervisors refused to approve the increase.
The road tax of 15 cents in Piedmont district remains as last year.
There were some protests at the meeting <onij the high taxes.
