Thornton Place
Mrs. Elizabeth H. DeBergh has purchased from Mrs. Martha Anderson, what is known as the Thornton Place, consisting of, 104 acres. This property adjoins the land of Mrs. DeBergh, known as Harris Hollow Farm and of John R. DeBergh, known as Sam Miller Place, and % Shenandoah National Park.
FOUR-H’ers TAKE HART IN VEGETABLE CONTEST
'Virginia’s 4-H’ers are again this yea* being given a chance to compete in the National Junior Vegetable Growers’ Association demonstration contest this year.
George R, Williams, associate horticulturist at VPI, said the contest is designed to stimulate careful planning on the part of youthful gardeners, and demands a thorough knowledge and the ability to explain various production and, marketing methods. How to prepare the many vegetable crops for use is also an item in the program.
National awards are available as follows: first, $150; second, flOO; third, $50; fourth, fifth, and sixth, $25.
Winner of the state contest will receive railroad fares, or automobile expenses to and from the annual convention of the National Junior Vegetable Growers' Association in New York City.
