PMA Request Wheat Report
The Production and Marketing Administration is taking immediate steps to have all farmers report the acreage of wheat grown in 1951, ‘52; or 1953,' Mr.' Barksdale; chairman, PMA County Committee, said. ~ The acreage report will be used by PMA in establishing farm acreage allotments for the 1954 wheat crop in the event production controls are established: Secretary of Agriculture Ezra Taft Benson has already stated that mandatory controls pn the 1954: crop must be considered as probable, j lf a wheat acreage allotment pro-; gra^i? to^a^tesed m effect, k must be proclaimed before July 15. If stricter controls in the form of marketing quotas on wheat are proclaimed, the decision must be made by July 1. Marketing quotas, if proclaimed, will go into effect upon approval by two-thirds of the wheat growers who will be affected by the quota program.
Since the time for gathering the required acreage information is extremely short, Mr. Barksdale stated that he is asking all farmers to come to the PMA county office and make their wheat reports. “If farmers will give us their full cooperation in supplying the wheat acreage information,” he said, “it will greatly assist us ^Reestablishing individual farm acreage allotments for 1954. If a wheat marketing quota referenum is required, individual farm allotments for 1954 wheat must be given to farmers before July 25.”
Mr. Barksdale said that the Rappahannock PMA county office is ready to take acreage wheat reports now. He wants all farmers to make their report before May 15, the sooner the better.
