Large Crowd Attends
Amissville Homecoming
There was barely standing room in the Amissville Baptist Church on Sunday morning when Rev. Harold Carder, pastor, offered the opening prayer of the homecomng crowd. Rev. John St. Clair, the pastor of the charge from 1935-41, delivered the morning message. Fellowship and luncheon were enjoyed on the church grounds from 12 until 2.
The afternoon worship began with the accompanist, Miss Ann Latham, playing the prelude “largo” Handel. After the reading of the church covenant by Ralph Rowzie, there was recognition of former members and guests. Melvin Spicer presented a ‘'Challenge To Laymen” and the hymn, “Stranger of Galilee” was rendered by Mann Lee Carter. Rev. 'R. Roger Clement delivered the afternoon message. Rev. Clement was the fourth pastor in the life of the church and its longest serving pastor, having served from 1909-34. The day’s worship services closed with a hymn-of dedication “The Great Pfipucian,” benediction and a solemn postlude, “Onward Christian Soldiers.”
Leeway Riding Classes
Schedule Student Show
Riding students of Leeway Pony Ride have set Saturday morning, August 22, 10:30 a.m., to hold a pony ride show.
Several classes will be held with the riding students competing for ribbon awards. This will be a walktrot show for the riding students of the summer classes at Leeway Pony Ride.
Students listed to take part in Saturday’s show include: Bucky, Kathy, and Louise Fletcher, Ned Moffett and Segar Jones, David and Marcia Litsey, Mark and Linda Harris, Manley Bruce, Barney Pauze, Chuck Wayland, and Miss Neville Wood and AJrs. W. L. Wake.
Dr. Nancy Lee Poehlmann of Warrenton will act as judge for the show.
The public is cordially invited to ittend the student riding show, to see the progress made by the students and to encourage them.
