WASHINGTON, D. C. MAN BUYS PROPERTY
Maurice G. Herndon, Washington representative of the National Association of Insurance Agents, has jus* purchased, from Richam Brown, a plot of eighteen acres of land just off the Lee Highway above Sperryville toward the Skyline Drive.
The land lies at the foot of the mountains, with excellent mountain views, and is well watered with numerous springs and brooks. Mr. Herndon, has extensive plans for the development of the property, including the erection of a modern cottage with picture windows and all conveniences, a swimming pool and a fish pond.
The Herndons live in the new development known as Hollin Hall near - Alexandria and have- two—boys, Maurice Jr., and Beale.
Born in Washington, Mr. Herndon comes from a prominent family in Fauquier and Fredericksburg. He is active in the leadership of Boy Scouts, some of whom he plans to bring up to his new mountain week-end and summer home. Mr. Herndon is also active in the Episcopal church, serving at present as senior warden of St. Luke's Church near Alexandria. He was formerl^in newspaper and radio work.
Mrs. Herndon also comes from a disinguished background, the niece of Colonel West, lieutenant governor under Governor Pollard.
The sale of the property was negotiated by Hening & Pillar, brokers of Sperryville.
CHURCH SERVICES
Rev. G. M. Profitt will speak on the subject, “The Bread of Life” at the 11 o’clock service Sunday, October 4 at Flint Hill. This is also our Communion Sunday.
There will be services, at the Beach Spring Regular Baptist Church, Sunday, October 4 at 3 p.m. E. Wayne Thompson, speaker. The public is invited.
