these fellows praised our grading system, health program and general method of organization of feeder calf sales and were in addition ardent—Arthur Godfrey fans. Most farmers feed in the neighborhood of 60-70 calves (both heifers and steers), some as high as 400 head. They like feeders grading choice and fancy, "don’t want anything I’m not proud to show to a packer."
To most, Virginia was a southern v state producing small boned southern cattle what we call “cracker cattle." They were amazed at the quality and bone in our calves on exhibit and we would have had a "dickens of a time” convincing them that there were more calves back home as good or better than the'12 Hereford and 15 Angus we had out there, had there not been some feeders around like Charlie Goetz who bought at the Rappahannock Angus sale last year, or for the 4-H baby beeves being exhibited that + came from Virginia,
