We've heard of many a plea for the comforts of welfare but this version, from a nearby county, tops them all. An old farmer, placed on probation after pleading guilty to operating a whiskey-making still, was summoned before the judge for return to your "whiskey-making.” With ' a little hesitation the defendant told the court, "No sir, not unless I have to. I got to have my whiskey, though. But I guess I won’t need to mak^ it, because I think I’ll go on welfare.”
