In Tuesday*8 Election Apathy and amusement were
the distinguishing i^OtCSjtfvTuesday’s local elections in the town of _Washington, with a grand totals of 49 citizens bothering to cast their votes. V' As no person had qualified, the s ballots were blank and the 49 votes were cast in'various direc- tions. Thirty individuals received __Jess than 4 votes and many others, less than ten. Thirty votes deemed Mrs. Dorothy Davis reelected as Mayor. When asked if she would accept the election, the following reply was given “as far as I know now, I will.” Wade H. Massie • and Charles T. Bruce, in that y -order, were runner-up candidates vl for this office. Five of the incumbent council—-men were re-elected with the following votes: Miss Ruby Jenkins, 39; Mrs. J. W. Price, 39, Mrs. ^ ! J. W. Critzer, 37; Mrs. Milton Hawkins, 31; and Mrs. Fields Benton, 18. Mrs. T. M. Johnston was elected the sixth member of the council. i Mrs. Benton declined the elec^ tion and Mrs. C. J. Miller, 16 v votes, confirmed her previous ■$7 statement, and declined the election. Counciladies Hawkins and. Qritzer have also declined their -- elections. Mrs. A. M. Vemer and =- Ashby Way land have accepted positions ■ oir the * town council.
