JLne draft movement, spurred by indignation among members at what was termed scurrilous and irresponsible criticism by someone afraid to sign his name, resulted in sweeping President Thomas Tear, Treasurer Luther B. Stuart • and Vice President William A.' Laing into additional terms of service. All three were re-elected by unanimous vote of the 33 members present at the meeting.
Tear and Stuart , who had pre- ___ __vious!y announced publicly their unwillingness to succeed themselves, both accepted nomination only on condition that their continued service be based on unanimous desire by 'the membership. ,u__
Tear has served as president of the; department, which has made an enviable record of progress and has won much favorable comment, v ever since its formation. This will be his third term.
Fire Chief Charles Compton,s / Assistant Chief £lmer Jenkins, ~ and Secretary Walter Slavik, however, declined to submit to draft. Bobby R. Boggs was therefore chosen to succeed Slavik, and Lloyd Bywaters to. succeed Compton. ,
