Russell Lee Racer
Funeral services for young Russell Lee Racer, 21, were held in the Washington Baptist Church Sunday afternoon, August 29 at 2 p.m. with burial in the Washington Masonic Cemetery.
Russell died Thursday night of injuries sustained in a fall from a water tank he was building at a General Electric Plant in Waynesboro. Russell was employed by the Chicago Bridge and Iron Works Company.
Russell was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Carroll Racer of Washington and the devoted foster son of Mr. and Mrs. Willie Payne of Washington, with whom he lived during his boyhood. He attended Washington High School and at an early age entered the U. S. Navy and served during World War II.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Doris Fincham Racer and small son, Russell McKinley Racer of Washington; his parents; Mr. and Mrs. Willie Payne; three sisters, Mrs. James Leonard, Mrs. Carlton Johnson, both of Washington, D. C. and Miss Lois Racer of Washington; three brothers, C. B. Racer, U.S. Army, Germany, James Carfoll Racer, Jr., Washington, and George Richard Racer U. S. National Guard, Waldorf, Maryland.' The Rev. Henry Foster conducted the funeral services Sunday afternoon. Active pallbearers were Jim Shackleford, Floyd Lewis, John Driscoll, Spotswood Meredith, Lester Burke, Dahiel Keyser, Guy Lillard and Frank Huff.
