Miss Margaret Ruth Pillar, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. T. J. Pillar, of Sperryville, now attending Madison College, Harrisonburg, has been invited to join the college orchestra, according to a recent news release from the college.
Miss Pillar, before entering Rappahannock County H i g h School for her junior and senior year, attended Ruffner Junior High and Maury High School in Norfolk. There, she sang in the chorus and played in the high school orchestra. At R.C.H.S., “Peggy” was active in the glee club.
In the college orchestra, Miss Pillar will play violin. Members of the college orchestra are admit_ted by invitation after a series of _ try-outs. As a member of the orchestra, she will take part in the annual concert tour of the orchestra next spring.
Musical talent runs thick in the Pillar family. Mr. Pillar is himself an artist of the keyboard, who glides from the majestic classical to the minstrel rag-time, as exhibited in last year’s county firemen’s minstrel.
