Santa Claus is coming to Culpeper next Tuesday, December 7,— in a rush of prancing reindeer and falling tinsel with a dash of pine scent and Christmas carols. > Honoring his annual visit, the Culpeper Retail Merchants will sponsor a mammoth street parade, featuring civic and commercial floats, fire department units an4 bands. The Amissville Volunteer Fire Department, the Sperryville Volunteer Fire Department, the Washington Volunteer Fire Department and the Washington Rescue Squad will take part in the parade, which starts promptly Tuesday night at 7 p.m.

Four silver trophies and $175 in cash are being offered by the Retail Merchants to the first, second and third prize-winning units in four classifications. Silver trophies will be presented to the first, second and third prize winners in the best-appearing fire department unit. Cash prizes of $50 and $25 will be awarded to the two bands named as first and second winner. A silver trophy will be presented to the band winning third prize.

The floats are divided into 2 classifications, Commercial and scenic or civic. Both winners will receive cash awards as follows: first, $25; second, $15; and third, $10.

The Culpeper stores will remain open on Tuesday until 7, just before the parade is to form on Piedmont Street. From Piedmont it will proceed up Main to Davis, down Davis to East, down East to Culpeper, up Culpeper to Main and down Main to Clore Funeral Home, and disband on the left side of Main Street. --

Store hours during the Christmas shopping season have been an-, nounced by the Retail Merchants. They are as follows:

Open until 8 p.m., Fridays, December 3 and 10. Starting Friday, December 17 and continuing each night until Christmas, open until 8 p.m. Closing time on Christmas Eve is optional.
