High wind all Friday night and until 5 a.m. Saturday morning eliminated the chances of picking up an old trail, and the hounds— cast on the south end of the C. J. Miller farm near the river, hunted well the “Peyton Place”; “Jessamine Hill” and the “Tom Kinsey Place” before striking the trail of a “red” on the south end of Long Mountain.
From here the chase led north, the fox keeping to the crest of the mountain. Breaking cover at the north end of “Long” the red turned east and crossed the large body of rolling farm land that lies between Long and Round Mountain. Crossing this area, the field and the many hounds—pink coats adding color—presented a perfect piece of hunting pageantry.
Reaching “Round” the fox circled the mountain, turned east, crossed the farm of R. C. Brooks and went to Chapipalier—taking the west side of the mountain. From there the chase led to Aron’s Mountain—from there back to Long, where the red was run to earth within 150 yards of the place where he was jumped.
