Celebrates Holiday With Sermon, Carols
The Slate Mills Baptist Church held its Stinday School Program entitled “The Christmas Story in Song and Scripture” on December 19th, with an added narration of the story of the writing of the favorite Christmas hymns and carols related to the various parts of the scripture story of the Nativity as told in the second chapters of Luke and Matthew, together With prophecy from Isaiah. Different departments sang special music, and there were two solos, , the first an old lullaby entitled “The Coventry Carol,” sung by Richard Jenkins and the other/ the “Cantique de Noel” by Richard Boyd. : Sunday afternoon there was a party for the Beginners, Primary and Junior pupils, with a beautiful Creche scene to illustrate the Christmas story which was related to the children. Friday night four cars carried groups of young people around the community caroling, following which there was a party in the Stinday School rooms.
Sunday morning, December 26, a Christmas sermon was preached by Rev. Clem Walters, visiting pastor, formerly of Culpeper but more recently a resident of Kentucky.
