Urged To Sign Up Children For Vaccine
Local School and Public Health Officials are very disappointed at the results of the polio vaccine survey. As of April 4th, only 231 parental consent slipshave been received ; this leaving TO eligible children in Rappahannock County that will not benefit from this program. Dr. Allman, Health Director, would like to urge alL the parents of these children to contact their family doctors, regarding this vaccine. The vaccine will not be given to any child unless it is approved; however, it is necessary to know the number to receive this vaccine so that final, clinic plans can be made and the order placed for the vaccine. Dr. J. P. Snead and Dr. E. M. Eastham have agreed to donate their time to give the immunizations. Again we would like to repeat; of .the 440,000 children receiving the Salk Vaccine last year, there were no cases of any reaction more than a sore arm or a slight fever, the degree of immunity it produces will be announced around April 12th. '
Plans now are to begin the Rappahannock Clinics on April 20th. If there are any parents who did not sign up for their child to be^ vaccinated and who would like to now, please contact the school teacher or the Health Department before April 12th when thea order for the vaccine will have to' be placed. * _
