Supervisor iistes stated tnat tne road from Bradley Atkins’ station up to Old Hollow, 612, needed black top, surface treatment and additional work done, on k. Campbell asked that route 626, 2 miles to route 621, be blacktopped. Chairman Cook suggested that the road, from Appalachian Inn to Chester Gap Post Office, 610, 660, be improved.
Following the brifcf toad hear*, •ing, Supervisor Estes brought up the issue of acquiring for the county a place to dump trash, stating that if the issue was not considered in the near future, the dumping of trash into rivers would indanger the bridges, as well as stir up other complications. ^
Deputy Sheriff Guy Burke explained to the Board that the jail was full of'termites, and that the court house was beginning to be invaded by .the pests. James Atkins Dies
After Long Illness
A long brave battle for. life came to a dose here Tuesdaymorning when James Atkins died at his home in Sperryville, following several months of illness.
A well loved citizen, he gave , much to the people of his community during his short life. Both in his business and personal dealings he “went the extra mile.” For 27 years he was the Sunday School Superintendent at Reynolds Memorial Baptist Qmrch and for 30 years he was church derk, in addition to acting as a deacon for many years. He was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 1150.
